How often have we heard the sayings, “It’s harder than it looks” and “If it were easy everyone would be doing it”? Marlene Strege and Hannah Strege (snowflake baby # 1) were interviewed by Dr. Elizabeth Rex on January 15, 2018.
On November 25, 2017, a baby girl was born who was a frozen embryo for 24 years. What does the Catholic Church teach about IVF, Surrogacy, and Embryo Adoption? Please invite your friends and family to tune into WCAT on Monday at 6 PM when Dr. Elizabeth Rex will introduce and interview Marlene Strege and her adopted 19-year old daughter, Hannah, who was frozen for two years before being adopted as a frozen embryo - as a tiny snowflake baby - in 1998.
Marlene Strege has been married to her husband John for 32 years. Marlene and John adopted 20 children in their embryonic stage of development in 1997. They were the first family to adopt through Nightlight Christian Adoptions' Snowflakes Embryo Adoption program (www.snowflakes.org). Their daughter, Hannah, was the only child to successfully survive the freeze and thaw, transfer, and implantation into Marlene's womb. Marlene is both the adoptive mom and the birth mom to Hannah. Hannah was born on December 31st, 1998. Marlene testified before Congress in 2001 against using frozen embryos for embryonic stem cell research but, instead, allowing the frozen embryos to fulfill their gift of life by letting families adopt them and give birth to them. In 2006, Marlene and Hannah, along with other Snowflakes families, stood behind President Bush when he vetoed a bill that would expand federal funding of embryonic stem cell research. Marlene, Hannah, and John continue to be a voice "for the least of these".
